Coach's Comments

Michael Troy has refined his game since joining in round 5 and his aggression at the ball has been inspiring for the team. Michael has had bags of 8 from full forward, 6 goals from the midfield in a final, and kicked several centre square goals at Greythorn Park playing from a back flank.

Adam
Under 14s Best & Fairest Adam Poulton breaks away at Greythorn Park

Every member in and around the team understands the value, heart, guts, determination, skill that have been the hallmark of the games of Adam and Matty P over several seasons with the club. Adam has worked diligently on the minor deficiencies in his game, such as consciously using his left foot at training, to always strive for that extra edge. It is this type of dedication and application that has lead to Adam being recognized by his peers and coaching staff as not only a highly skilled player, but also a leader by example. Matthew Prentice has always been known at the club as tough in and under worker in packs. This season Matty took his game to a new level where his roving and hard tackling provided a benchmark for the team to aspire to.

The coach’s award was the coach’s most difficult decision of the year. Patrick Chard, Bryce Frattin, Andy Hodgson, Gianni Mancuso, Hamish O’Donnell, Tom Sheehan, Xavier Troy and Nick Watty all had serious claims to the title. In such a consistent and dedicated team I do feel that these individuals have all excelled in taking on important roles for the team, training hard, leading on field and off field, and following coaching instruction with selfless instinctive flair. All also polled very well in the Best and Fairest count. However, Guy Dickson could not be ignored for his contribution this year. Guy just edged out several other outstanding individuals to take the award due to weight of Best and Fairest votes, for fearless backing into the pack marking, for consistent impact in games, and for the ability to willingly and courageously take on specific and important team tasks and still triumph.
Players in contention for the Most Improved Player award were Maroun Abou-Afech who made great strides and became a potent forward target as the season progressed, Paljor Lama with his fearless team disciplines and ferocious tackling, Naveen Sellahewa who had some stellar run and carry games, and Daniel Storaci who’s courageous marking and running game set the team alight on a number of occasions. But for consistent development across the season, marked by a growing significance to the team forward structure, Mathew Vogel should be commended on a fantastic season. Mat attends every training session with the vigor, joy, intensity, and voice of a professional. The Most Improved Player award is testament to his attitude, effort, and contribution to the team.
